Hello

Hello! My name is Jenn, and I am the founder of Sober Sisters in the City. My sober journey began in February of 2022, and after multiple failed attempts, I finally reached a point where I had enough and decided to make a change in my life. Choosing to get sober was one of the best decisions I've ever made, but I soon realized that traditional 12-step programs weren’t the right fit for me. I struggled to find a community that felt like my own and longed for a support group of friends who truly understood what I had been through. At the same time, I wanted to bond with others and build meaningful relationships.

Through my own journey, I learned that building friendships, especially among women, requires vulnerability, openness, and genuine interest. It's essential to create spaces where we can share our stories, celebrate our victories, and support each other during tough times. I found that engaging in activities that encourage connection, like group outings, crafting sessions, or even simple coffee dates, can help break the ice and foster those deeper connections.

I felt there was a need for a community like this, and I hadn't found it yet, so I decided to start the Sober Sisters group myself. I wanted to create an inclusive environment where every woman could feel safe and welcomed. I was also very aware that money can be a significant struggle for people in early sobriety, particularly if they are navigating the costs of starting the recovery process and life changes. With that in mind, I made it a goal to organize events that are free of charge, ensuring that any sober sister could join without financial barriers. This way, we can focus on building those connections and supporting one another wholeheartedly.

Together, we’re creating a space where friendships can thrive, and women can empower each other in their sobriety journeys. I’m excited to see how our community continues to grow and the relationships that will be formed along the way!

About Us

Establishing new friendships in adulthood can be challenging, especially for women navigating the complexities of sobriety. This has started to become more commonplace, but drinking culture still reigns supreme. Some women discover that, over time, they have unintentionally distanced themselves from significant portions of their social circles, which can lead to feelings of loneliness and isolation. This is where the Sober Sisters group excels, offering a dynamic and supportive community tailored for women who share similar experiences and challenges.

Founded on the belief that meaningful connections are essential to the recovery process, the Sober Sisters group inspires women to bond, share their personal stories, and provide mutual support through the ups and downs of sobriety. A common phrase in the recovery community is that the opposite of addiction is not sobriety but connection, and it could not be more true. We organize a wide range of thoughtful activities, inviting members to step outside their comfort zones at times and form authentic connections. Examples of these activities include crafting workshops that encourage creativity, hikes that promote physical health and wellness, and large group gatherings that allow us to engage personally with more members and express our interests. Each event is designed not just for enjoyment, but also to help lay the groundwork for lasting friendships.

Inclusivity is a foundational principle of the Sober Sisters. The group is committed to fostering an environment free from hate speech and discrimination, ensuring that every member feels welcome, respected, and appreciated for their individuality. Our emphasis on acceptance and support enables women to express themselves freely, share their unique stories, and create genuine connections. By gathering in this safe space, the Sober Sisters create a vibrant community that empowers each member to grow, thrive, and succeed in their sobriety journey and beyond, fostering resilience and connection that lasts a lifetime.
